Herts Cycling Coffee Stops

By February 22, 2021March 1st, 2021No Comments

With the limited amount of outdoor exercise we are allowed and the limited number of places open, I thought I’d borrow from the great idea that the Brownlee Foundation and Yorkshire Tea had last year with their #thecafesareopen challenge.

Unfortunately due to lockdown #2 and #3 they had to postpone the challenge but I’m sure with the restrictions lessening they will open it up again soon.

In the meantime here at BadJupiter (UK) we have followed the Brownlee’s lead and started a collection of our favourite independent cycling stops around Hertfordshire that are open for business and offering needed sustenance from a simple coffee to warm your hands and insides on to vegan treats, lunches and sausage sandwiches to keep you going on those longer rides.

This list includes such great little treats as Cafe77 in Codicote, offering up great coffee and freshly cooked sausage baps and the “spoilt for choice” village of Brookmans Park, with the Brookmans Bakery and Tealicious offering coffees, teas, sandwiches and cakes and also catering for those in your group with intolerances and food preferences, together with the Brookmans which is now open for take away coffee and cake at the weekend too and is donating proceeds to charity.

If you’re heading more towards the west of Hertfordshire, I’ve added a couple of stops in St Albans, the Pudding Stop and Street Cafe, are 2 lovely independent spots to help you steer clear of the bigger chain coffee shops. As the name suggests, the Pudding Stop is famed for its sweet selection but does great coffee too, where as the Street Cafe has some great hot food, the soda bread sausage sandwich is certainly worth a visit, and they cater really well for Vegans too. Further North from St Albans sees you hit Wheathampstead and the wonderful Loafing with it’s huge selection of sweet treats

I’ve had a load of suggestions for new places which I’ve added to my collection and BadJupiter Wishlist, so I’ll be checking them out over the coming weeks.

Scan the QR code above to take this list with you on your ride and ping me with any additions, or make your own badjupiter collection and collaborate with your friends, family or cycling club.

These small businesses need our support and I certainly need theirs 😆
